Congratulations you’ve just got engaged!.. What do you do next? The wedding planning process can be a daunting one. There’s so much to do, so it’s hard to know what to do first. Every wedding and every couple will be different but these are the basic first steps you should take as soon as you get engaged to begin planning the wedding of your dreams.
1. Tell Everyone
This is the obvious first thing to do as soon as you say ‘Yes’. Let your friends and family know that you’re officially engaged with an engagement party or just a general announcement. To make sure you haven’t forgot anyone consider putting an announcement in the local newspaper – or the modern day equivalent, make a Facebook or Instagram post.
2. Picture your Dream Wedding
Before you can decide on the finer details, you need to have a general idea of what you want. The best way to do this is to imagine your ideal wedding if money and other elements weren’t an issue. Do you want to get married in a church? Outside? In a castle? Do you want a big or small wedding? Share your ideas with your other half to make sure you’re on the same page but don’t get bogged down on the smaller details and think of the bigger picture.
As it’s only the beginning of the wedding planning process this does not have to be too detailed. However, it’s important to get a general idea of how much you want to/ can spend before you get ahead of yourself. Sit down with your fiancee and decide on a general figure and go from there.
4. Create a Pinterest
This is the 21st century version of a wedding scrap book (which you can opt for instead). It’s a place you can keep track of everything that inspires you. As it is early days you’ll want to do a good bit of research before deciding on anything for definite, so Pinterest is a handy way to remember everything and keep it all together.
