Summer Weddings – Advice, Ideas, and Inspiration

Summer is finally upon us and the sun is starting to show. Summer is the most popular time of year to getting married in Ireland, and with good reason. There’s substantially less rain than other times of year, the days are longer and the nights shorter, most flowers are still in bloom, and is everyone is generally happier. If you are planning to have a summer wedding we have you sorted at Marry Me Ireland, with our handy tips and ideas.

Colour Scheme

Deciding on a colour scheme should be one of the first things to tick off your wedding planning list. Everything should match and coordinate with the colour scheme so there is no point in picking out a purple cake if you are sticking to neutral colours. Last summer consisted of more neutral colours but the brides and grooms this year are looking to incorporate a bit more colour. Some of the more popular colour schemes this summer are pink and gold, various shades of blue, yellow and lavender, and mint green and rose.

Summer time in most countries means shorts and bikinis but that is still the exception in Ireland rather than the rule. One of the beauties about summer weddings is that you won’t need to cover up near as much as you would the rest of the year, but keep a shawl or coat on hand in case you want it as the night goes on. For the lads, they can probably skip the coat and stick with just a jacket, but we wouldn’t recommend only having a shirt with no backup or warmer options to put on during the day/night.

While there is a multitude of wedding flowers in bloom during springtime, summer has nearly as much choice (particularly early summer). Peonies, ranunculus, and roses are our favourites for summer weddings. Make sure the flower colours match your colour scheme.

This is one of the most important decisions for most brides. Decide on whether the location or the type of venue is more important to you first and then go from there. Venues are usually dearer this time of year because of demand. If you are able and willing, weekday summer weddings will be substantially cheaper. If you are looking to have an outdoor wedding this is definitely the season to do it, but make sure to follow some precautions.
