When planning a wedding the big things like the dress, the dinner, and the flowers all come to mind but it can be the little things that sets your wedding apart. Here at Marry Me Ireland we have compiled a list of the unique little things you can do to help your wedding stand out from the rest.
- Flip Flops in the girls bathroom
Weddings can be a long affair and if you and your female guests are anything like the girls at Marry Me Ireland your feet will not last the whole day in 4 inch stilettos. To avoid people walking around shoeless, fill a basket in the women’s bathroom with flip flops that your heel wearing guests can change into throughout the night.
- Ribbon wands
Ribbon wands are a cleaner alternative to confetti and can be hand made or purchased online relatively cheaply.
- Balloon Splash Canvas
Pin loads of balloons to a canvas filled with different coloured paint. Get your guests to throw darts at it to burst the balloons and create a painting you and your spouse can keep as a memorial of your wedding day.
- Cake Boxes
There’s usually a lot of cake left over at the end of the night so a nice idea rather than letting it go to waste is to split the leftovers into little boxes that your guests can bring home.
- Something for the kids
If you have a good few young kids going to your wedding it is important to keep them entertained so they are not annoying the other guests. It may be a good idea to set aside another room (or section of a room), with a hired babysitter, stocked with games, DVDS and snacks to keep them occupied.
- Letting off balloons or lanterns
A nice idea is to have all your guests write out a special wish for the bride and groom and attach them to balloons or lanterns. Get everyone to let them off at the same time – this makes for a great photo op!
- Letters to your significant other
On the morning of your wedding write a heartfelt love letter to your bride or groom and lock it in a wine box. Pick a date in the future, maybe your 5th or 10th wedding anniversary, when you are going to open the box together, drink the wine, and read each other’s letters. If you are having any marital trouble before that date you can open the box then instead to remind each other how you felt the morning you got married.
- Video messages
Set up a video booth where your guests can record a message to you and your spouse with funny memories and advice for the future. Have a videographer edit the best videos together as a keep sake.
- Late night snacks
When everyone has started to get their fill of drink and its been hours since dinner, bring out food your guests can nibble on to get the ball rolling again. Think breakfast baguettes, cocktail sausages, and bite size burgers (the kind of food you’d crave on the way home from a late night). You could even order in pizza or have a yummy food truck on the ready.
- Hangover bags
Make up little take home bags for your guests to pick up on the way out the door. Fill them up with hangover supplies like water, dioralyte and mouthwash and add something cute like a hand written thank you from you and your new spouse.
