Honeymoon Guide to New York City – Everything you Need to Know

New York is a honeymoon favourite for the couples that love city breaks. It’s certainly not the place to go if you want to spend your time lounging by a pool, there’s far too much to do for that. Wedding planning can be time consuming, so to help take the stress off, here’s some of the must do’s if you’re thinking of honeymooning in the Big Apple.

Accommodation

Accommodation is one of the first things you should book when planning your honeymoon if you want the best price. When you’re holidaying in New York it is important to remember that you won’t spend much time in your hotel, so there’s no point in wasting too much money on a super fancy place. The most important thing to look for is somewhere that is relatively central. Smaller boutique hotels in Midtown would be your best bet – possibly Hotel Henri or the Arlo Nomad. The subway goes everywhere in New York so you’ll be anywhere in Manhattan within half an hour from that area.

Sights

You will never run out of sights to see and places to visit in New York, even the locals haven’t seen it all. If you want to go to the top of a sky scraper to get the best views of the city, I would recommend Rockefeller Centre. You’ll see central park and the Empire State Building from up there. Alternatively, if you’re more adventurous you can take a helicopter ride and you will be able to see similar views.

If you like museums you’re definitely in luck, a few favourites are MOMA, the Met, and the Museum of Natural History. If you want something a little less main stream and a little bit more fun, the Museum of Sex is a great laugh. Central park is a must see while in Manhattan, go to Zabar’s on the upper west side beforehand and pick up supplies for a picnic. You can also get a boat out to Governor’s island for a couple of hours if it’s a nice day.

Food

The food in New York is some of the best in the country. If you are spending the day downtown, stop in Pier A for some lunch on the Hudson River. If you are in Midtown, Frying Pan is a fun lunch spot on a barge. Some nice dinner options include Catch in West Village (make sure to book in advance), The Smith (there’s a few, so find the closest one to you), Gallagher’s near Times Square, and Roberta’s in Brooklyn. For something a bit more alternative, go to Syndicated in Brooklyn, it’s a cinema that serves dinner and drinks while you watch a movie.

Nightlife

The nightlife in New York is next to none. If you are interested in plays and musicals, make sure to go to a Broadway show. A personal favourite is A Bronx Tale, but some other popular shows include Chicago, Jersey Boys, Hamilton, and The Book Of Mormon. If you’d prefer more intimate less mainstream shows, visit one of the many Jazz shows. Smalls bar is the longest running Jazz bar in the city and is a once in a lifetime experience. If you’d prefer to just have a few drinks and chill there are plenty of bars located around the city and for the couple who loves to party, New York’s clubs stay open until late into the night.
