Love Stories: Yohan and Samuel’s Shelbourne Hotel Wedding

Today’s love story is that of Yohan and Samuel. Samuel first came to Dublin with his brother Barry, he instantly fell in love with the bright lights and the cosmopolitan vibe of the city. Yohan came from the other side of the world, New Caledonia.

When the two, living two separate lives oceans apart, met there was an instant connection. A connection so strong, Yohan had never felt anything close to it before. When two souls are meant to be together – it is a force of the Universe that is bigger and more beautiful than you could ever imagine. They were destined for each other.

Yohan and Samuel married twice, the first on a rooftop in New York last year. Even though it was an American wedding it was an Irish wedding through and through. They said they had never met so many Irish people abroad as they did that day. Walking into a bar, they were applauded by a room full of strangers, but we Irish know, there are no strangers, only friends you haven’t met yet.

For the happy couples second wedding they looked at over 10 different countries to find the perfect place to have their family and friends gather to bless their wedding. They kept coming back to Ireland, the place Samuel fell in love with all those years ago, and the place they first holidayed together. They decided on the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin and got married for the second time by our Dublin celebrant June this year. Yohan said, “We came from different worlds, but we share the same love for family, for Ireland and for each other. In Dublin we are happy, and that’s it.”

It has long been a tradition in Ireland to bind a wedding with the tying of the hands. This ceremony pre-dates religion and was conducted by the elders of the tribes. It is where we get the terms ‘tying the knot’ and ‘hand in marriage’. Yohan and Samuel had a handfasting ceremony knowing that the bonds they made are in their hearts forever.

Everyone at Marry Me Ireland wishes Yohan and Samuel the happiest future together and hopes their Irish wedding at the Shelbourne hotel was everything they dreamed of.
