When asked what love means to Shannon and Michael, they explained that it means, ‘choosing each other every day’. Their love story began in the late 1980’s. Shannon worked in the local doughnut store to support herself through college, Michael was the baker.
Like all great romances, this one started out with Shannon not being entirely sure that she actually liked poor Michael. Shannon thought he was extremely handsome but she didn’t really get his sense of humour. This all changed as Michael’s charm began to grow on her as they worked many, many nights together.
Their first official date was a wonderful romantic lunch at a local restaurant. Michael was petrified that he would not have enough money to pay the bill, as this wonderful establishment was very, very fancy. Alas, it all worked out in the end and after many years together and two daughters, MacKenzie and Ryleigh, Michael and Shannon just celebrated their vow renewal for their 25th wedding anniversary.
Their vow renewal was performed by our celebrant Tim McGrath and celebrated in the stunning Drimnagh Castle. Drimnagh castle, in the suburbs of Dublin, is the only castle left in Ireland with a flooded moat around it. It was built by Hugo de Bernivale in the early thirteenth century.
Shannon and Michael had a handfasting ceremony. The expression tying the knot comes from handfasting; it is a ritual where the couple’s hands are tied together with ribbons. As their hands are bound together so are their lives and hearts. Michael and Shannon said, “Our private ceremony was personalized, meaningful and something we will never forget. The handfasting ceremony was so symbolic and special to us.”
