Today’s love story is a celebration of Karl and Mairead, who had their wedding last September in Trudder Lodge. They had a stunning love filled wedding ceremony, surrounded by their friends and family, with our Kilkenny celebrant Jenny Lorimer.
Karl and Mairead met on a blind date set up by their friends in August 2008. Once Karl finally built up the courage to call Mairead, they stayed on the phone chatting for 2 hours and arranged to meet 3 weeks later. On their first date they discovered they were both from Baldoyle and had even grown up knowing the same friends. Karl felt the date had gone so well in fact, that he proposed to Mairead no less than 3 times that night. He vowed after that to only say it again when he actually meant it.
Things went from strength to strength, with the couple moving in together a year later. Six months later they were delighted to discover they were pregnant with Aodhan, followed by Rian one year later who completed their family.
The official proposal came in October 2016. Karl and Mairead had booked their favourite getaway and on arrival to the room, Mairead found champagne and a card with a story. It began, as all the good ones do with… Once upon a time. It detailed their history to date and finished with those special words, because now he really meant it, “Will you marry me?” A delighted Mairead said yes and was presented with a ring Karl had made specially for her.
Karl and Mairead started their wedding with a ring warming ceremony. Their rings were passed around their guests who blessed them with their warm wishes and happy vibes. This was a great way to really make their guests feel involved with their ceremony.
They also had a handfasting ceremony. This is one of the oldest matrimonial traditions known, dating back to the times of Brehon law. Modern day phrases such as tying the knot, hand in marriage, and bonds of matrimony all come from this ancient Celtic tradition.
Of their celebrant Jenny, the happy couple said, “Most of our family and friends had never been to a outdoor or civil ceremony before and they all mentioned how impressed they were. Jenny is very easy to talk to and made the whole experience fun, respectful, and caring. She is wonderful to work with and we would highly recommend her to anyone getting married.”
