Today’s love story is that of Karen and Erwin, who renewed their vows by the Baily Lighthouse, with our celebrant Declan Gorman. For their silver wedding anniversary, they booked a trip to Ireland. While they were here they had a beautiful and bespoke Irish vow renewal ceremony to celebrate their life together.
Years ago, Karen and Erwin met on a ship bound for Manila in the Philippines. They almost lost contact after Erwin nearly missed the return ship. He was the last person to get onto that boat before the plank was raised. This was in the days before Whatsapp, Facebook, or even mobile phones.
Even though they’d only known each other two weeks, they kept in contact through letters and expensive long distance calls. However, love conquers all and they were later married in a ceremony planned by Karen’s mother, and half filled with people they didn’t know. For their vow renewal, they opted instead for an intimate ceremony with their two kids and two friends.
After they reaffirmed their love for each other, they exchanged rings. They had a handfasting ceremony, an age old Irish wedding ceremony where the phrase ‘tying the knot’ comes from. Their hands were bound together with ribbon, symbolising two becoming one.
After their ceremony Karen and Erwin said, “We couldn’t thank Declan enough for taking the time to relay our love story for our kids to hear . We were ecstatic, and the view of the cliff was awesome . Thank you for making this happen for us . This is truly a memory that we will hold forever in our hearts.”
Congratulations Karen and Erwin on your silver wedding anniversary. We are glad your Irish vow renewal ceremony was everything you wished for.
