First Dance Songs – Classics, Oldies, and Newbies

If you’re a music buff you probably have had all your wedding songs planned since you started planning your wedding, including and probably top of the list, your first dance song. However, that’s probably not the case for most of us so we’ve compiled a list of first dance songs to help get your creative juices flowing.

1. A Thousand Years – Christina Perri

The first song on our list is ‘A Thousand Years’. It was released in 2011 for the ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Bad – Part 1’. Fifth Harmony released it again in 2012 but we prefer the original.

2. All Of Me – John Legend

John Legend wrote and released this song in 2013, it became the second best selling song in the United States in 2014, and was his first number one in the same country. He dedicated it to his wife Chrissy Teigen.

3. I Won’t Give Up – Jason Mraz

This acoustic folk song was written and sung by Jason Mraz and released in 2012. It’s from his album ‘Love Is a Four Letter Word’.

4. Your Song – Elton John/ Ellie Goulding

Elton John released this song in 1970 on his self titled album. Ellie Goulding released it again later in 2010. Her version was played on the John Lewis Christmas ad.

5. Can’t Help Falling in Love – Elvis Presley

This classic was released in 1961, and featured on Presley’s film ‘Blue Hawaii’. It was rerecorded over the years by many artists and bands but we all agree at the Marry Me Ireland office, that Presley’s version takes the gold.

6. The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra

You can’t have a list of first dance songs without having Frank Sinatra on the list. This Jazz classic was released in 1969 and has been played at weddings ever since. It was first in the 1936 film ‘Swing Time’, sang by Fred Astaire. The same year it won an Academy Award.

7. Breathless – The Corrs

We couldn’t finish off the list without adding some Irish artists. This rock pop song is a little bit more upbeat than some of the others and was released in 2000. It was number one in the UK, Spain and Ireland, and nominated for a Grammy.

Here at Marry Me Ireland we have a wide variety of exceptional celebrants who can deliver the wedding ceremony of your dreams – traditional, unique or otherwise. So get in touch today and we can start planning your special day!
