The Dos and Don’ts of Eloping – Wedding Ceremonies

If you and your partner have decided to ditch your guestlist, save some money and elope, this blog post is for you. We’ve never said no to performing a couple’s wedding ceremony, no matter how short notice we’ve been given, so we are well rehearsed in the dos and don’ts of eloping.

Let everyone know – If you’re waiting until after your wedding to let everyone know, come up with a fun way to tell them. If you wanted to have an after wedding party, why not invite everyone over for a surprise and let them know the big news. If you are a no fuss couple, a couple of calls and an Instagram post should do the job.

Worry about the legalities later – If you’re getting married in Ireland you will need to give the registry office three months notice. Not to worry, have your ceremony now with one of our wonderful celebrants and just do a ten minute registry job when you can.

Book a photographer – Even if you just want your wedding to be the two of you, think strongly about hiring a photographer. It’s a day you will remember forever and if you think you’ll want professionally taken photos in the future you shouldn’t dismiss it.

Wear something you love – Just because you don’t have time for fittings doesn’t mean you can’t look fabulous on your wedding day. If you don’t have time to go shopping, make sure to put on a favourite outfit you already own.

Care what anyone thinks – Your wedding day is and should be all about you and your partner, so don’t worry about what everyone else will think about your elopement. If it’s right for the two of you, let them moan.

Rush into booking things – While you’ll only have a short amount of time to book things, you should still have a small think about it. Shop around a bit to look for the best deal and read up on reviews before signing on the dotted line.

Expect gifts – If you don’t invite anyone to your elopement, don’t expect anybody to get you gifts. One of the bonuses of eloping is saving on costs, but one of the drawbacks is that you won’t be given nearly as much gifts.

Here at Marry Me Ireland we have a wide variety of exceptional celebrants who can deliver the wedding ceremony of your dreams – traditional, unique or otherwise. So get in touch today and we can start planning your special day!
