Whether you are an eco-friendly princess or just want to do a little bit extra for the environment we have come up with some ways you can help reduce the carbon footprint and still have the wedding of your dreams. Here at Marry Me Ireland we know how important your wedding day is so pick and choose which methods are right for you.
Between your wedding invites, your ceremony and your reception a lot of paper can be used by the time your wedding is finished. To minimise the damage have your wedding invitations, ceremony programs, and menus printed out on recycled paper. A lot of printing places will cater for this so you don’t have to compromise on your taste and the style of your wedding.
If you are having a wedding in a remote place chances are a lot of people will be driving down. An alternative option could be to hire group transport like the wedding bus (or even a party bus if that is up your street!) to take your guests to and from an agreed meeting point somewhere central. Bonus – your guests will be delighted with this as it will leave them free to drink without the trek of collecting their car the next day.
You don’t have to sacrifice on beauty just because you want to do your bit for the environment. Instead of using precut flowers as centrepieces you can use potted plants like orchids and greenery. Why not have small trees going up the aisle as well, this will also add a flair of personalisation to your big day. Bonus – the potted plants can then be given out as wedding favours at the end of the night.
Travel in Style for your Honeymoon
Instead of jetting to your honeymoon destination why not get the ferry to France and take a train to almost anywhere in Europe. This will not only help the environment but it is a far more comfortable way to travel. Alternatively why not honeymoon in Ireland we have some of the most amazing beaches (weather dependent of course!) and scenery in the world.
Donations over Wedding Gifts
You could forego wedding gifts and ask your guests to donate to an environmental cause, such as Union of Concerned Scientists or Greenpeace, or to a charity close to your heart instead. A lot of couples need their wedding presents to pay back their wedding or start a new life together so this option is not available to everyone.
Locally Sourced and Organic Food
When hiring a caterer or choosing a venue why not find one that serves home grown and organic food. This not only helps reduce the carbon footprint but you are supporting local farmers and suppliers and not to mention, it tastes delicious!
RSVP by Phone or Email
Instead of having your wedding guests respond by sending you back an RSVP card you could ask them to send you a text or an email. All of these little things can add up to help you make your wedding as eco-friendly as possible and it doesn’t take away from your wedding day at all. If anything this is handier for your guests!
Here at Marry Me Ireland we have a wide variety of exceptional celebrants who can deliver the wedding ceremony of your dreams- traditional, unique or otherwise. So get in touch today and we can start planning your special day!
