For many couples, Christmas and New Year are their favourite days of the year. For us at Marry Me Ireland, as celebrants this is one of the busiest times due to the growing number of weddings happening Christmas week. It is also a popular time for engagements as people are on holidays, often returning home to the family and are feeling relaxed, romantic and generous. It is a time when people are throwing parties and having feasts anyway so why not throw in a wedding! Everything is lit up and decorated, giving more of a sense of occasion and the hanging of mistletoe means that kisses will be flying. Also, couples will be off work every year at Christmas, which makes it a great time to celebrate anniversaries, basking in all of the love and sentimentality of the season.
Festive wedding ceremonies
Why not ring in the New Year with wedding bells? This is a great time to begin something new, celebrate and bring all of your friends and family together for the bash of the year. Christmas and New Year add an extra element of sparkle and glamour to a wedding. Brides and bridesmaids will often wear sequins or golds and silvers, velvets, fur shawls & feathers.
A winter wedding is just not complete without the fireworks display, especially on NYE. With the long nights, having a venue lit with candles and fairy lights, Christmas trees and open fires makes for a really cosy, festive atmosphere. If that doesn’t give you enough of a warm, fuzzy feeling you can always add Champagne!
The only minus for choosing to marry at this time of year is that often, wedding suppliers will add an extra charge for working during that week but if money is not an issue it is well worth the extra expense to create a perfect winter wonderland wedding.
