Your Wedding Planning Timeline: 9 Months Before the Wedding

At this stage of the wedding planning process you should already have the date picked, the location booked, your budget made out, your wedding party picked and asked, and a rough guest list made out. There is still plenty of time until your wedding so if you don’t have any of the above done don’t worry. If you do, now it’s time to concentrate on the next aspects of wedding planning.

Music

About 9 months before the wedding you should be looking to book your reception and ceremony music. First you need to decide what type of music you want at each. Live bands and DJ’s are ideal for wedding receptions and more classical music or even simple playlists are used more at wedding ceremonies.

Honeymoon

Next up is one of my favourite parts of the wedding planning process – honeymoon planning!! If you want to ensure flight and hotel prices don’t go through the roof, you should book it about 9 months in advance. Think long and hard about where you want to go because it will be your first trip as a married couple.

Dress

Between 10 and 8 months before your wedding you should start looking for your wedding dress. If you give the bridal shop any less than 6 months notice, it will be considered a rush order and it may cost more. You may find your dream dress in the first shop you look in, but more than likely it will take a few trips with your girls before the perfect dress speaks to you.

Decorations

Double and triple check with your wedding venue what decorations they provide and what decorations you will have to order in. If you are having an at home wedding you will need to rent tables and chairs, glasses and cutlery, as well as all the extras like candles and table cloths.

Save the Dates

By now you should have a rough idea of who you want to invite to the wedding. You should send out your save the dates about 7 to 9 months before the wedding to give your guests time to make arrangements. If you are having your wedding abroad this is extra important because your guests will need to book flights and organise accommodation.
