Jetting off on a long (and well deserved) honeymoon as soon as you get married would be super romantic, but for a lot of people nowadays it’s not realistic. However, just because you can’t go on a full honeymoon, possibly due to time, work or money pressures, does not mean you can’t get away for a few days. This phenomenon has been labelled as a ‘mini-moon’ by modern newlyweds. We’ve put together a list of a few possibilities for all our husbands and brides to be to consider when planning their mini-moon.
The capital of the Czech Republic is only a two and a half hour plane ride from Ireland. It’s stunning in both warm and cold weather and has plenty to keep you occupied. With Winter brings snow, so pack your warmest coats and hats and in Summer the temperature can rise to 24 degrees. Food and drink is super cheap in Prague and while you can get expensive hotels, if you’re on a budget Airbnb is your best bet.
Edinburgh is just over an hour away by plane from Ireland. It is the perfect mini-moon destination filled with restaurants and bars for the couple who just wants to relax and Celtic history, castles and hidden gems for those who’d prefer to explore and get to know more about the city. Unlike Prague, Edinburgh can be on the expensive side, so look up budget friendly restaurants before you go.
A mini-moon definitely does not mean you have to leave the island of Ireland. Cut travelling costs, pack up the car and head to Galway for a long weekend. Galway is known around Ireland for being buzzed with a great atmosphere. There are plenty of castle hotels and spas for those who want to relax in style and even more B&Bs and cheap hotels for more chilled out couples.
If you’re not up for heading to mainland Europe but you also don’t want to mini moon in Ireland, why not head just across the pond. London is filled with stuff to do and see to keep you occupied during the day and into the night. Visit places like Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace, and one of the many museums during the day, then head to Soho at night for dinner and drinks.
France’s capital is known around the world as the city of love. It’s the perfect mini-moon destination for old romantics. It’s filled with amazing architecture and history and for those who are kids at heart, Disneyland is a short trip outside the city. While there’s loads to see, there’s even more to eat. The food (and wine) is just to die for!
